A ballroom for your wedding breakfast

Our function room was once the townhouse's ballroom. High ceilings and original period features mean it needs very little dressing to feel special — and at up to 50 guests for a sit-down meal, it's big enough for the people who matter and small enough to feel like your own house for the day.

Handfastings, blessings and garden drinks

The walled garden is included with every wedding booking. It's where guests gather for drinks and photographs between the ceremony and the meal — and it's a beautiful setting for a symbolic ceremony around the fountain.

Food & drink

Your choice of caterer

You can use our in-house catering, or bring in an outside caterer you already love. External caterers need to be fully self-sufficient: they serve the food themselves and bring their own cutlery, crockery and equipment, as our kitchen isn't available for outside use.

The function room, walled garden and main bar aren't just for weddings. We also host christenings, birthday parties, funeral wakes and conferences — with in-house catering, a bar for your guests and rooms upstairs for anyone travelling. How many guests can you hold?

The function room seats up to 50 guests for a sit-down wedding breakfast, and we can welcome up to 100 guests in total for your evening reception.

How much does it cost?

Can we get married at The Silk House?

The legal ceremony takes place elsewhere, such as the register office or church. Symbolic ceremonies — handfastings, blessings and vow renewals — can be held in our walled garden before you celebrate with us.

Is the walled garden included?

Yes — the walled garden is included with every wedding booking, for drinks, photographs or a symbolic ceremony.

Can we use our own caterer?

Is the venue accessible?

As a Grade II listed Georgian townhouse, The Silk House has stairs throughout and no lift. If you or any of your guests have access needs, please talk to us before booking so we can plan what will work best.

Where do guests park?

There's no dedicated car park, but there's on-street parking outside (30 minutes between 8am and 6pm) and public car parks nearby for longer stays.
